Saturday Scores: Sharks continue winning streak to widen East lead

Kyle Mortenson led Granite City to their 5th straight win with a weekend sweep of Minnesota.

Long Beach 6 @ Norwich 3 – The Sharks won their fourth straight game and widened their lead in the East as they doubled up the Sea Captains, 6-3. The Sharks scored first on a goal from Jack Fitzpatrick. Norwich then scored back-to-back goals from Ethan Ranger and Teagen Beier to take a 2-1 lead. The Sharks put the game away in the 2nd period, scoring four goals, which included tallies from Jake Weikel, Tyler Zembrzycki, Dylan Harbour, and Kyle Gilbert. Gilbert would add another goal in the 3rd period and Cam Hultin had the other goal for Norwich. Ryo Murakami made 21 saves in the win. Alex Tsymbalyuk took the loss with 23 saves.

Badlands 1 @ Helena 8 – The Bighorns stayed perfect on the season as they handled the Sabres on Saturday by an 8-1 score. Eric Gibboney scored twice and Taber Gutschick had five assists. Helena scored four goals in the 1st period as Samuel Feamster, Harlan Wojtusik, Liam Bland, and Gibboney all lit the lamp. Helena added four more goals in the 2nd period, which included another from Gibboney and others from Tylor Greene, Gavyn Galloway, and Adam Harvey. Kael Delzer had the lone goal for Badlands. Dylan Romanow made 16 saves in the win, while Brooks McLean made 43 saves in the loss.

Willmar 1 @ Mason City 5 – The Toros picked up a weekend sweep of the WarHawks thanks to a convincing 5-1 win on Saturday. Carter Newpower had two goals and two assists and Rielly Eason made 32 saves in the win. The Toros took a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game on a goal from Jack Campion. Willmar tied the game at 1-1 later in the period thanks to their lone goal from Ben Luedtke. Later in the period, Newpower would add the eventual game-winning goal to make it 2-1. Cal Levis scored twice in the 2nd period to make it 4-1 and then Newpower would add his second of the game in the 3rd period to make it a 5-1 fina. Will Pinney took the loss, making 9 saves.

Austin 5 @ Mid Cities 7 – Ilnur Madiarov had two goals and two assists to lead the Stars to a 7-5 win over the IceBats. Austin had a 2-0 lead early in the contest as Lucas Helland and Dominic Toews scored. The Stars the rattled off three goals from Blake Lind, Michael Kennedy, and Colton Sebastian to take a 3-2 lead. In the 2nd period the game got tied at 4-4 as Helland scored twice to complete a hat-trick, while Hayden Russell scored for Mid Cities. In the 3rd period, the Stars pulled away thanks to two goals from Madiarov and another from Easton Walters. Nickolas Friedenberg had the other Ice Bats goal. Adler Hoadland made 45 saves in the win, while Sebastian Skarzenski made 36 saves in the loss.

El Paso 10 @ Atlanta 2 – Connor Thompson had two goals and three assists to lead the Rhinos to another convincing win in Atlanta. El Paso scored the opening four goals as they put the game away early, which included two goals from Wesley Rees and others from Thompson and Jack Olson. El Paso added three more goals in the 2nd period as Thompson scored again and Zachary Ware and Caden Butler also scored. Colin Clough, Riley Hunt-Bahn and Jaxon Penner added goals in the 3rd period. Anthony O’Neal scored both goals for Atlanta in the loss. Camden Pendleton made 43 saves in the win, while Paul Jarvis and Coleman Garnier combined for the loss.

Milwaukee 3 @ Alexandria 4 – Michael Debrito scored twice to lead the Blizzard to a sweep of the Power thanks to a 4-3 win on Saturday. Debrito opened the scoring in the 1st period along with a goal from Ryan Hadland. Debrito added his second goal in the 2nd period and Benjamin Tschida added the game-winner in the 3rd period. Mason Ausmus had two goals and Max Erstad also scored in the losing effort for the Power. Andrew Tuttle made 29 saves in the win, while Spencer Northway made 31 saves in the loss.

Peoria 3 @ New Ulm 4 (SO) – The Steel hopped out to an early lead with goals from Lahoussine Salama and Matt Zaruba, only to see the Mustangs rattle off three straight goals from Connor Henderson, Thomas Kayner, and Massimo Polistina to take a 3-2 lead. In the 3rd period, the Steel tied the game at 3-3 on a goal from Gus Cantwell. In the shootout, goals from Ryler Schelle and Salama secured the extra point for the Steel. Nolan Lacosse picked up the win, while TJ DeMeulenaere took the loss.

St. Louis 3 @ Wausau 5 – The Cyclones completed the weekend sweep of the Jr. Blues thanks to a 5-3 win on Saturday. Wausau took a 3-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Gage Vierzba, Cullen Moehring, and Kalob Paquin. The Jr. Blues cut the lead down to 3-2 thanks to a pair of goals from Michael Gakhutishvili. Wausau secured the win scoring two more goals from Pavel Bakhtin and Aidan MacDonell. Tommy LaVigne had the other goal for the Jr. Blues. Zach Dosan made 32 saves in the win, while Espen Eager made 38 saves in the loss.

Granite City 9 @ Minnesota 0 – The Lumberjacks dominated from start to finish as they picked up a weekend sweep of the Loons thanks to a 9-0 shutout on Saturday. Nine different players scored in the win for Granite City and Matt Smith made 8 saves in the shutout. Ben Anderson and Kullan Daikawa scored in the 1st period. Tal Halliday, Kyle Mortenson, Matthew DeLany, Tucker Skime, and AJ Schemenauer added 2nd period goals and Andrew Butler and Nolan Widman scored in the 3rd period. Owen Reeve made 86 saves in the loss.

Rochester 3 @ Oregon 2 (SO) – The Grizzlies stayed perfect on the season as they squeezed out a weekend road sweep of the Tradesmen thanks to a 3-2 shootout win. The Grizzlies opened the scoring on a goal from Justin Wright. Sam VanderHoeven then tied the game at 1-1 in the 2nd period, but the Grizzlies would regain their one-goal edge just minutes later on the goal from Kyler Bauer. In the shootout, Max Breon would score the lone goal. Lucas Henderson made 22 saves in the win, while Ian Hedican made 64 saves in the shootout loss.

Bozeman 5 @ Butte 4 – The Icedogs saw an early lead erased but hung on for 5-4 win as five different players scored. Nick Stevens and Ian Bowman scored in the 1st period, Cole Busher added a 2nd period goal and Nolan Conrad and Liam Massie added 3rd period goals in the Icedogs win. Butte got goals in the losing effort from Caelin Chinery, Fabian Vik, Luke Schleusner, and Caleb Manson. Icedogs goalie Collin Soderholm made 37 saves in the win, while Caleb Cross made 51 saves in the loss.

Great Falls 10 @ Sheridan 3 – The Americans scored five goals in the 1st period and never looked back in a 10-3 win and sweep of the Hawks. Silas Hughes, Tyler Sunagel, and Jackson Henningsgard each had five points in the win. Hughes scored twice in the 1st period and Henningsgard, Sunagel, and Hunter Maschke also added 1st period goals. Micah Serino scored in the 2nd period. Sunagel added two more goals in the 3rd period and Henry Fusco and Serino also scored. Sheridan goals came from Dakota Kott, Nick Tigges and Ben Lavingne. Wyatt Olsonawski made 47 saves in the win, while Bo Buckley and Thomas Kuriscak shared the loss.
