Friday Finals: Tradesmen stay hot with win over Grizzlies

Atlanta forward Nick Mumford led the way with a six-point night, two goals and four helpers, in a 6-5 win in New Mexico.

Rochester 3 @ Oregon 5 - The Oregon Tradesmen stayed red hot as they extended their point streak to 11 games and put an end to the Grizzlies’ nine game winning streak with a 5-3 victory on Friday night. Carter Watters led Oregon with two goals and a helper. Nathan Walker, Dillon Schmidt and Max Rotsaert all had a goal and an assist for Oregon. Ben Oakland led the Grizzlies with a goal and an assist. Leo Milan and Brady Strand each scored for Rochester in the loss. Connor Carroll picked up the win in the blue paint with 29 saves. Kaleb Bents was beaten after he gave up five goals on 42 chances.

Atlanta 6 @ New Mexico 5 - A furious comeback from the Atlanta Capitals spoiled the New Mexico Ice Wolves’ home opener as the Caps took home a 6-5 win in the first game of their three-game set. Nick Mumford led the way with a six-point night, two goals and four helpers. Anthony O’Neal had a hat trick and an assist for Atlanta. Nick Jameus had himself a three-point night of his own with a goal and two assists. Jo Kawagishi picked up a pair of goals for New Mexico while Ryan Kerr chipped in three assists. Jaden Stiller, Zak Wentworth and Ethan Secord all had a goal and an assist for the Ice Wolves. Damian Vandanacker grabbed the win in goal as he turned aside 37 shots. Krzysztof Jakubowski and Pierson Haislet combined to stop 25 shots for New Mexico.

Long Beach 7 @ Danbury 2 - It was the Jack Fitzpatrick show on Friday night as the Long Beach forward scored four times in the Sharks 7-2 win over the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks. Dylan Harbour and Henry Slager each tallied a goal and an assist in the win while Christopher Keller also found the back of the net for Long Beach. Roman Winicki and Denis Radchenko provided the offense for Danbury. Ryo Murakami got the win in goal for the Sharks as he made 26 saves. General Demaio was saddled with the loss as he made 29 stops.

TX Brahmas 1 @ Louisiana 4 - The Louisiana Drillers knocked off the Texas Brahmas 4-1 as four different Drillers lit the lamp in the victory. After giving up the game’s first goal, Louisiana struck back with four unanswered tallies. Micah Maldonado tied the game at one with his 10th of the season. Lukas Danny and Ayden Attungana each scored in the second period to give the Drillers a 3-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. Frank Steinway put the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal in the final seconds. John Moriarty was nearly perfect as he made 26 saves. Michael Imala had the lone goal for Texas while Brendan Forden stopped 20 shots.

Northeast 4 @ Norwich 1 - A three goal outburst in the third period helped propel the Northeast Generals to a 4-1 win over the Norwich Sea Captains, Braeden Kennedy scored just 23 seconds in to the contest to get the Generals on the board. It wouldn’t be until early in the third when Northeast extended their lead to 3-0 after goals from Matthew Nuzzolilo and Dalton Wille. Sava Makarenko tried to get Norwich back in it but Sean Gorman sealed the win with an empty net goal. D’Mar McCoy grabbed the win in the blue paint with 25 stops. Andrew Yocum was dealt the loss despite making 38 stops. 

Bay State 1 @ New Jersey 5 - Ryan Talorico led the Titans with two goals and an assist as New Jersey defeated Bay State by a score of 5-1. Payton Fobes also potted a pair of goals for New Jersey in the win. Tommy Atanacio grabbed a goal as well for Titans. Daniel Antal got the win in between the pipes as he denied 33 chances. Jason Melanson grabbed the only goal for the Bobcats. AJ Cooper and Jacob King combined to make 38 stops on the evening.

Minnesota 3 @ Willmar 4 - The Willmar WarHawks survived a comeback effort from the Minnesota Loons as they took home a 4-3 victory on Friday night. Braydon Buckingham, Luke McCarthy, Spencer Bergman and Kevin Odlaug picked up goals for the WarHawks. Michael Sweetland had three assists for Willmar. Jack Kritzeck, Sebastian Schuehle and Garrett Burroughs all got on the scoresheet for the Loons. Payton Mancuso was the winner in goal as he made 32 stops. Matthew Ryynanen was given the loss after a 33 save performance. 

Alexandria 4 @ New Ulm 6 - Charlie Kietly had a goal and two assists while Zach Dalzell scored twice in the New Ulm Steel’s 6-4 win over the Alexandria Blizzard. Hunter Nelson and Cooper Kantola each registered a goal and an assist for the Steel. Griffin Lennes contributed a goal as well for New Ulm. Ryan Hadland scored twice for Alexandria while Joe Gronholz chipped in a goal and an assist. Cole Klingbeil also scored for the Blizzard. Nolan Lacosse stopped 46 shots as he grabbed his second win of the year. Kyle Abrahamson and Alex Lamont teamed up to make 16 saves for the Blizzard. 

Peoria 5 @ Wausau 2 - A three-point effort from Tristan Trudel sparked the Peoria Mustangs 5-2 win over the Wausau Cyclones. Trudel and Jaycob Bland each scored twice for the Mustangs while Perry Lagatuz put in a a goal and an assist. Joseph Ambroffi was the winner in net as he stopped 29 shots. Gage Vierzba had both of Wausau’s goals in the loss, Ryan Burke took the loss in net, making 28 saves. 

Mason City 3 @ Granite City 4 - The Granite City Lumberjacks staged a late comeback to stay perfect in regulation as they bested the Mason City Toros by a score of 4-3. Aiden Moser got Granite City on the board first with a goal late in the opening frame. The second period belonged to the Newpower’s as first Carter Newpower tied the game with his fourth of the year and Jordan Newpower gave Mason City their first lead of the game with his second tally of the season. Tucker Skime drew the game even at two with his ninth tally but Mason City would retake the lead after a goal from Hayden Siegel. Jacob McPartland scored just about 90 seconds later to tie the game again and that set up Matthew Delany’s first goal of the year just two minutes later as the Lumberjacks grabbed the lead again and would ride Xander Roberts to another victory. Roberts ended the night with 28 saves. Will Kunka took the loss for Mason City despite making 36 saves. 

Mid Cities 3 @ El Paso 7 - Payne Pent grabbed two goals and added a helper as the El Paso Rhinos took down the Mid Cities Jr. Stars by a score of 7-3. Marc LaFrance and Zachary Ware each had a goal and two assists of their own for the Rhinos. Trey Erramouspe and Carson Doyle also lit the lamp for El Paso. Ilnur Madiarov was the offensive force for Mid Cities as he logged two goals and an assist while Michael Kennedy logged the other Jr. Stars goal. Patrick Boyle needed just 13 stops to get the win in goal for El Paso while Garrett Johnson was given the loss after a 49 save performance.

Badlands 2 @ Gillette 3 (OT) - Anthony Foster scored just over two minutes into overtime as the Gillette Wild kept their winning streak alive with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Badlands Sabres. Badlands opened the scoring with Dawson Wirth’s seventh of the year. Adam Severson tied the game up with a power play goal early in the second period but Izaiah Phillips put Badlands back in front with a goal just before the end of the middle frame. Isaac Young tied the game with another power play goal in the third period to set up overtime and Foster’s game winner. Cole Wheaton got the win in the cage as he made 22 saves. Brady Devries was sensational at keeping his team in it as he finished the night with 66 saves. 

Butte 0 @ Yellowstone 3 - Edwin Falkenstrom was incredible as he notched a 40 save shutout on Friday night, helping his Yellowstone Quake blank the Butte Cobras 3-0. Ben Carlson and Zac Orwig both had a goal and an assist for the Quake. Donovan Knuckles picked up a goal as well in the win for Yellowstone. Caleb Cross was very good for Butte, he was stuck with the tough loss despite making 43 saves.

Great Falls 2 @ Sheridan 3 - The Sheridan Hawks continued their strong play as the edged the Great Falls Americans 3-2. Ryan McKenna found the back of the net twice and Makhai Sparks added a goal of his own in the Hawks win. Josh Humphreys and Tie Schumacher each picked up a pair of assists. Alex Leaf netted both goals for the Americans in a losing effort. Patric Loeffler got the win in between the pipes as he turned aside 34 chances. Josh Koziol was busy all night long and finished the night with 55 saves. 

Helena 2 @ Bozeman 1 - Gabe Swanson ended the night with 23 saves as the Helena Bighorns held on to defeat the Bozeman Icedogs by a score of 2-1. Camden Cunningham scored midway through the opening period to put the Bighorns out front 1-0. Harlan Wojtusik added to the lead with his 14th of the season early in the second. Bryce Sturm got Bozeman on the board with his first of the season, a power play tally. That’s as close as the Icedogs would get as Swanson kept them off the board through the final 26 minutes of action. Cam Milewski was the losing netminder as he made 33 saves for Bozeman.
