January 3, 2019

The Wisconsin Whalers of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward and captain Sam Hanson has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota.
The 6’1/194 lbs. forward and native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, first made a NA3HL roster last season, where he stood out as a point-per-game-player with the Whalers (6 G, 17 A in 23 games). He was also selected to and played in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament.
In 2018-19, he has increased his output to an average of more than two points per game, which includes 15 goals and 31 assists for 46 points in just 21 NA3HL games this season, as he leads the Whalers in scoring
Hanson impressed at the 2018 NA3HL Showcase with seven points in three games played.
He has also played in the NAHL this season with both the Minot Minotauros and Jamestown Rebels.
“We are very happy for Sam and this NCAA commitment. Sam works hard on and off ice and this is a great opportunity for him. He is a great young man and this is well-deserved,” said Whalers owner Tom McDermott.
