Sea Captains forward Bain makes ACHA Commitment

July 10, 2024

The Norwich Sea Captains of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are thrilled to announce that forward Jameson Bain has committed to attend Western Michigan University this fall to continue his academic and hockey careers. Bain joined the Sea Captains prior to the team’s inaugural season in 2021. Sea Captains head coach Kevin Cunningham executed a trade with the Danbury Jr Hat Ticks to obtain Bain’s rights in April of 2021. Bain had played the previous season for Cunningham on the Jr Hat Tricks. Over the course of his four seasons in the NA3HL, Bain played a total of 168 games and recorded 27 points on the strength of 11 goals and 16 assists. The 2003 Longmont, Colorado native will major in Business Management and play for the Stallions’ American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I program. The Stallions play in the highly competitive Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League.

As a key member of the Sea Captains since the team’s inception, Bain has been a vital part of the growth that the program has enjoyed. He has played a crucial role in helping Norwich improve their win totals every season, from 8 during the team’s inaugural season in 2021-22 to 25 during 2022-23 to 32 this past season. Bain’s strong two-way play and his commitment to his teammates made him an indispensable part of the team and its culture throughout his time in the crimson and navy. His versatility enabled Bain to help his team by playing forward or defense with poise and maturity, depending on the team’s needs. Numbers certainly do not tell the whole story of Bain’s massive contributions to the Sea Captains, but he did score 11 goals and dish out 13 helpers to record 24 points in 134 games in a Norwich uniform. Fittingly, he scored a huge goal in his final game as a Sea Captain in a 5-2 playoff loss to the Northeast Generals on March 15. At the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Bain was honored by the NA3HL as the East Division’s Community Service Award winner for his efforts to provide assistance and mentorship to youth hockey players in the Norwich community.

Bain talked about his time in Norwich and his decision to go to Western Michigan saying, “I am super excited to be able to continue not only my hockey career, but also my education at Western Michigan. My three years in in Norwich really helped prepare me for college hockey and helped instill the confidence in me that I can succeed at that level. I am looking forward to being a part of a school and program that together check so many boxes for me. Knowing a few players that have already played at WMU, including former Sea Captains teammate Brendan Pellerito, I am confident that I will have great experience in Kalamazoo.”

“This commitment is a special one for both our program and me personally, as Jameson has been the consummate Sea Captain and teammate. Bringing Jameson to Norwich for our inaugural season was an extremely important move that continued to pay dividends throughout his his three seasons with us. His unselfishness, willingness to do anything to help the team and the fact that he was always willing to do his work without any fanfare speaks volumes about his character. Our program will miss his presence and I will miss seeing him everyday after being around him for the last four seasons, but I am so thrilled for Jameson and his family that he was able to find a great fit for the next four years at Western Michigan. I look forward to following his successes there and beyond,” said Cunningham.

Bain is one of four members of the Sea Captains to make a college commitment this season.
