Sabres Assistant Captain Lundberg makes NCAA Commitment

The Badlands Sabres of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are proud to announce that Assistant Captain Laurence Lundberg has committed to play NCAA DIII hockey for the newly established program at Western Connecticut State University. 

Lundberg, 20, spent both seasons of his junior hockey career in Rapid City with the Badlands Sabres, having made the move from Sweden ahead of the 2023–24 campaign. Over two years on the blue line, the ‘04 defenseman appeared in 87 career games, tallying 39 points (4 goals, 35 assists).

His offensive output doubled from his first to second season, showing clear development under Head Coach Brooks Mitzel. During the 2024–25 season, Lundberg’s most impressive stretch came in the latter half, where he posted multiple points in three consecutive games. That run included a standout performance on January 31 against the Gillette Wild, in which he notched a goal and an assist to help lead the Sabres to a 5–3 win. He opened the scoring in that contest and later assisted on the game-winning goal.

“I’m extremely excited for Laurence. He has been with us for two years and it was great to see his maturation as a player and as a leader. Laurence was always a player that I could rely on in every situation and he was well liked by his teammates,” stated Sabres’ Head Coach Brooks Mitzel. “He was one of those players that always put in the extra effort on and off the ice. He is fully deserving of this opportunity and I couldn’t be happier for him. I’m looking forward to following his college career! WestConn is getting an awesome kid and hockey player. Our organization wishes Laurence the best of luck as he heads into his freshman year!”

Lundberg is one of five players from the Sabres to make a college commitment this season.
