Thursday Night Thriller: El Paso Defeats New Mexico
by Sander Goldshteyn
El Paso 3 @ New Mexico 2 - The El Paso Rhinos pulled off an upset over the New Mexico Ice Wolves in a tight contest on Thursday night. Tanner Ross opened up the scoring for the Ice Wolves, but the Rhinos responded with two goals to close out the first period. For the following two periods, the shot totals were exactly even. After an uneventful second period, New Mexico tied the game with a goal from Jacob Wenner. By the looks of it, the game was sure to head to overtime, but with under three minutes on the clock, Donovan Bradford buried his second of the night to put the Rhinos up 3-2. El Paso goaltender Nathan Graybill stood tall to earn the win and complete the upset. The Rhinos win their rematch against the Ice Wolves and earn their fifth win of the season. New Mexico’s point streak comes to an end as they lose in regulation, but the team hopes to bounce back in their next game.
