Drillers Goaltender Schmidt Makes College Commitment

The Louisiana Drillers of the North American 3 Hockey League are proud to announce that goaltender, Cole Schmidt, has committed to play ACHA Division II college hockey for Florida Gulf Coast University (Fort Myers, Florida).

Schmidt has spent two seasons in the NA3HL with the Drillers. During the 2024-25 season he was named the NA3HL Rookie of the Year and he made the NA3HL Second All-Star team. He was also a member of the 2025 Fraser Cup Championship winning team. 

He only improved from there as his best season statistically was the 2025-26 season. He was one of the best goalies in the league as he boasted an impressive record of 29-0 during the regular season. His only loss of the entire 2025-26 season occurred in the Fraser Cup Championship game. His save percentage was .950 which ranked him #1 in the league. 

“Super excited for Cole to be heading to Florida. It's a great program and he will make it even better,” said Drillers head coach Chris Francis. “The last two seasons Cole has been amazing in net for our team helping us win a championship. Will miss him in Louisiana but excited to watch him at the next level.”

He had multiple shutout games during the season, including back to back games during the Fraser Cup Championship on Mar. 28 and 29 against the Helana Bighorns and the Texas Brahmas, earning his team a spot in the finals against the Granite City Lumberjacks.

Schmidt is one of seven players from the Louisiana Drillers to make a college commitment this season.
