Sunday Wrap-up: Drillers Secure Sweep Against In-State Foe

Louisiana 15 @ Bayou State 0 – The Louisiana Drillers completed an impressive shutout Sunday on the road against the Bayou State Rougarou. The Drillers’ first goal came less than a minute into the first period on a one-timer that deflected off the pads of Bayou State’s goalie, scored by Zachary Marsell. A few seconds later, at 18:54, Louisiana’s Julian Saldi scored his first goal of the game, followed by his second at 15:50. The Drillers struck again when Daniel Vihavainen found the back of the net. The final goal of the period came with 1:37 left, scored by Louisiana’s Ryan Gill. With both teams down a man early in the second period, Louisiana’s Trent Laroche was able to capitalize with a shot after a successful face-off. Braden Bates went bar-down for Louisiana minutes later with a power play goal. Gill snuck one past Bayou State’s goalie late in the period for his second goal, followed by another goal from Saldi to complete his hat trick. Adam Polecki found twine for Louisiana shortly after for his first goal of the night. Louisiana didn’t stop there, with Elijah Pleva, Jackson Zych, and Logan Woods each notching their first goals of the night, bringing the score to 13-0 at the end of the period. Polecki started off the third period with his second goal of the night. The game got physical throughout the period with multiple minor and major penalties for both teams, along with game misconducts for Louisiana’s Adam Polecki and Logan Woods and Bayou State’s Brycen Madison. Andrew Kozhushko scored the final goal of the game, securing the 15-0 shutout for Louisiana. The Drillers finished the game with an impressive 67 shots and improved to 6-0-0 on the season.
