Saturday Scores: West Bend Takes the Win in Overtime

Garden State 0 @ New Hampshire 8 - The New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings secure their fourth victory of the season with a commanding 8-0 shutout against the Garden State Gamblers. The contest opened with two late first period tallies by the Jr. Mountain Kings. Caleb Briggs scored his first of the year while Kayden Hill tallied his fourth of the season. Moving into the middle frame, a trio of goals were scored with Kayden Hill continuing his offensive prowess this time early into the period. Not long after Gavin Deroma added to the lead, scoring his first marker of the year. Midway through the frame, Jacob Landry capitalized on the penalty kill and scored short-handed for the Mountain Kings. In the final frame, another trio of goals were scored by New Hampshire. Deroma nets his second of the contest midway through the period. A minute later, Ethan Ross scored his first of the season to add to the lead for his team. Finally the last tally of the night would come from Anthony Ayala as he lights the lamp for the third time this season. The Jr. Mountain Kings skate to a big 8-0 victory.

Fox Cities 3 @ Wausau 6 - The Wausau Cyclones earn a 6-3 victory with a big second-period push. The contest opened with the Fox Cities Forger lighting the lamp first thanks to a tally by Jonah Dickens midway through the opening frame. The Cyclones would even the score heading into the middle frame thanks to Bryton Thaxton finding twine for Wausau. The middle period spotlighted the Cyclones scoring four consecutive goals, three of them on the power play. Jacob Maxon kicked off the second-period push with a power-play tally four minutes into the frame. Followed by him was Alec Mellon scoring his first of the weekend for the Cyclones. The scoring ways continued with a tally on the man advantage by Nate Spencer with 2:36 on the clock. Followed behind him a little less than two minutes later was Mellon lighting the lamp again for the Cyclones. In the final frame, the Forge looked to make a push in and were able to tighten the contest with two goals. Tyson Bradford kicked off the scoring in the third period with a power-play tally. Followed shortly behind him was Jonah Dickens scoring in unassisted fashion. However, the Cyclones would light the lamp one last time, this time with Jacob Maxon scoring his second of the night midway through the frame. The Cyclones skate to a 6-3 victory on home ice.

Long Beach 8 @ Norwich 3 - Showcasing a dominating offensive performance last night, the Long Beach Sharks took a road win against the Norwich Sea Captains. The contest opened with Norwich’s Rowan Finklea lighting the lamp for the first time this season. He found twine in the first minute of the game on the power play. The Sharks would quickly respond with four consecutive goals in the frame. Caden Shafer nets two of the tallies while Tate Cakir and Anthony Valeriote score one apiece. Moving into the second frame, Long Beach quickly adds to their lead with a power-play tally by Roberton Gamez. The Sea Captains would respond with a power-play tally themselves when Tristin Scheuffele lit the lamp midway through the frame. However, not long after, Tate Cakir scored his second of the night for the Sharks to give them a 6-2 lead. In the final frame, the Sharks add more to the scoresheet with Kingsley Solomon and Brady Gatchell lighting the lamp in the first four minutes of the final period. The Sea Captains would respond one last time on the power play with Tristin Scheuffele scoring with the man advantage. The Sharks skate to a big win on Saturday night.

Louisiana 9 @ Texas R 0 - The Louisiana Drillers earned a 9-0 shutout victory over the Texas RoadRunners, scoring four times in the first period before adding two goals in the second and three in the third. Louisiana opened the scoring with Dante Zaffarano, assisted by Cohen Palmer and Dayton Ruppel. Trent White then doubled the lead before Zachary Marsell made it 3-0, assisted by Andrew Kozhushko. The Drillers added a fourth goal before the end of the opening period when Brody Haas scored, with Braden Bates and Kozhushko recording assists. Haas completed his hat trick in the second period, scoring twice to extend Louisiana's lead to 6-0. Bates and Kozhushko assisted on both goals. Louisiana continued to pull away in the third period. Logan Woods scored to make it 7-0, assisted by Haas, before Julian Saldi added another goal. Joey Moore III capped the scoring with assists from Ruppel and Adam Polecki, giving the Drillers the 9-0 victory. Dacoda Jones recorded the shutout for Louisiana, stopping all 11 shots he faced. Haas led the Drillers with three goals, while Bates and Kozhushko each recorded three assists.

Minnesota V 2 @ Granite City 5 - The Granite City Lumberjacks scored four unanswered goals across the second and third periods to defeat the Minnesota Vulcans 5-2. Granite City opened the scoring in the first period when Connor Hanley scored, assisted by Blake Couet and Cayden Stasienko. Minnesota answered later in the period as Drew Peterson scored, with Cooper Hehir assisting, sending the teams into the first intermission tied 1-1. The Lumberjacks regained the lead in the second period when Jackson Engberg scored, assisted by Elijah Fitch. Drew Thompson then extended the lead to 3-1, with Michael Schmidt and Sam Moore recording assists. Schmidt added a goal of his own later in the period, assisted by Fitch and an unlisted second assist, giving Granite City a 4-1 advantage heading into the third. Riley Berg extended the Lumberjacks' lead in the third period, with assists from Kaden Larson and Hanley. Minnesota added a late goal when Rory Kronick scored, assisted by Jordan Giacomini, but Granite City held on for the 5-2 victory.

Tulsa 0 @ Texas B 14 - The Texas Brahmas dominated from the opening period, scoring seven goals in the first two periods before adding five more in the third to defeat the Tulsa Oilers 14-0. Texas opened the scoring with Jayani Benson, assisted by Xavier Othon and Tyler Conrad. John Scharf added two goals in the period, while Benson scored his second of the game. Scharf's second goal was assisted by Benjamin Humphreys and Jason Fatta, giving Texas a 4-0 lead after one period. The Brahmas continued their offensive output in the second. Scharf completed his hat trick before Fatta, Conrad, Aiden Paulsen, Robert Palianski and Humphreys each added goals to extend the lead to 9-0 entering the third period. Texas continued to pour on the offense in the final period, with Logan Chesna, Caleb Carlance, Owen Sanchez and Alex Beer among the scorers as the Brahmas finished with a 14-0 victory. Jacob Brumm recorded the shutout for Texas, stopping all 12 shots he faced. Scharf led Texas with three goals, while Benson scored twice.

Wisconsin 1 @ St. Louis 0 (OT) - Wisconsin goalie Nicklas Timm shut out St. Louis in an overtime win on Saturday night at the Affton Ice Rink in Affton, Missouri. To go along with Nicklas Timm's shutout in net, Andrei Kohmenko scored the lone goal in the game. For the Jr. Blues, goalie Gavin Arnold also had himself a great night in goal, saving 34 shots. The first period saw the Woodsmen shoot the puck eight times while the Jr. Blues had nine; however, no goals were given up. After a very even first period, the Woodsmen came out firing in the second when they were able to get 18 shots on goal. Gavin Arnold was able to save them all to keep the score in a deadlock. The third period saw the Jr. Blues outshoot the Woodsmen 10-6, but both goalies would keep a clean sheet going into overtime. With overtime winding down, it appeared as though the game would go to shootouts; however, with just two seconds left, Andrei Khomenko would net his first of the season to give Wisconsin the win.

Austin 7 @ Bayou State 1 - Jakob Knight played a critical role in lifting the Ice Bats to a victory with a two-goal performance on Saturday night at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jakob Knight scored the first two goals of his season for the Ice Bats, while teammate Ronan Howard added three assists as six players added a goal. Braylon Loftin scored the lone goal for the Rougarou, while teammates Nathan Daniels and Avery Smith each added an assist. The Ice Bats came out in the first and almost immediately scored the first goal of the night when Michael Broerman found the net. The Ice Bats would take their 1-0 lead to the locker room before coming out in the second period firing. Dax Farnsworth, Alexander Morgan and Jakob Knight would each sneak one past the goalie to extend the lead to four. The Ice Bats did not let up as they would score three more in the third period to create a 7-0 gap before Braylon Loftin would finally get the Rougarou on the board with 6:21 remaining in the game. Austin goalie Michael Ocnaschek would save 16 shots in the winning effort. Despite giving up seven goals, Adam Ranger would stop 39 shots in the loss. The Austin Ice Bats improve to 2-3-1 on the year.

West Bend 4 @ Rochester 3 (OT) - Rochester's comeback attempt was not enough as the West Bend Power won in overtime Saturday night at the Rochester Recreation Center in Rochester, Minnesota. Nathan Antti scored the game-winning goal in overtime, while teammates Elias Holan, Adam Sexton and Cole Craft each scored a goal in the winning effort. Sawyer Zaruba tallied a power-play goal along with goals from Jace Jordan and James Korpi. Heading into the first intermission, the game would be scoreless, with the West Bend Power outshooting the Grizzlies 13-3 in the period. The Power would score two goals in a 13-second span as time was winding down in the second. The first would come off the stick of Elias Holan with 2:41 left, and the other would come from Adam Sexton with his fourth goal of the year. Cole Craft would then help the Power score the first goal of the third period to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The Grizzlies would not back down as they rallied to score three goals to tie the game in a span of just over two minutes. Jace Jordan would start the rally with 10:37 on the game clock. Just over a minute later, Sawyer Zaruba would net the next goal on a power play. James Korpi would score the tying goal with 8:15 on the clock to complete the comeback. The game would head to overtime for the second time in as many days, but this time that's as far as it would go as the Power's Nathan Antti would score his first goal of the season at the right time to give them the win with 0:40 left in the overtime period. West Bend goalie Jacob Iallonardo would finish the night saving 31 of 34 shots, good for a .912 save percentage. For the Grizzlies, Christian Hill would save 35 of 39 shots, good for an .897 save percentage. The Power improved to 4-0-0-1 on the year. Even though the Grizzlies would drop the game, they are yet to lose in regulation with a record of 3-0-1-1.

Alexandria 7 @ North Iowa 6 - The Alexandria Blizzard came out on top in a high-scoring contest against the North Iowa Bulls on Saturday night at the Mason City Arena in Mason City, Iowa. Blake Breiland and Job Carpenter each scored two goals for the Blizzard, as six Blizzard players recorded at least two points in the win. Logyn Kaufman scored four goals in the game for the Bulls in the loss, while Grant Harder also added four assists in the effort. The first period saw five goals find the back of the net, three by the Bulls, including a power-play goal from Boone Theiler to give them a 3-2 lead going into the second period. The second period would also see five goals, this time three by the Blizzard. The first of which was a short-handed goal by Blake Breiland to tie the game. Logyn Kaufman would then score the next two goals, the first on a power play with 14:02 on the clock and the second with 8:32 remaining, giving him the hat trick. The Blizzard would respond quickly as just 17 seconds later, Job Carpenter would pull the Blizzard's deficit back to just one. Jack Welde would tie the game with just under two minutes remaining in the period. After 10 goals in the first two periods, the third saw only two, one by each team. The first was the Blizzard's Blake Breiland getting his second of the night. Logyn Kaufman would respond again on a power-play goal to pull even with the Blizzard with just under seven and a half minutes to go, with Grant Harder adding his fourth assist of the game on the play. The game would end up going into overtime, where the Blizzard would come out on top when Job Carpenter got his second of the night with 2:38 left in the overtime period. Alexandria goalie Adam Holien would save 24 shots, while North Iowa's Jakub Stary would save 33. The Blizzard picked up their first win of the year and moved to 1-1. The Bulls lost but still gained a point and moved to 1-0-1 for the year.

Bozeman 0 @ Sheridan 6 - The Sheridan Hawks earned a 6-0 win over the Bozeman Icedogs on Saturday, scoring in all three periods while Wyatt Knott stopped all 32 shots he faced for the shutout. Sheridan opened the scoring just over two minutes in when Luke Lebens found the back of the net, with Anze Gudino and Max Krueger earning assists. The Hawks carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Sheridan added two goals in the second period. Rex Rider extended the lead late in the period before Lucas Paliwodzinski scored a short-handed goal with just over two minutes remaining. Krueger recorded an assist on Rider's goal and finished the night with a goal and two assists. The Hawks added three more goals in the third period. Andrew Bushbaum and Cole Bishow scored early in the frame before Krueger capped the scoring with his second goal of the night. Sheridan finished with a 51-32 advantage in shots on goal. Knott made 32 saves for the shutout, while Bozeman goaltenders Jack Ryan and Jadon Henry combined for 45 saves.

Butte 2 @ Gillette 6 - The Gillette Wild defeated the Butte Irish, 6-2, Saturday. The teams traded goals in the opening period, with Gillette’s Donovan Balek and CJ Lang finding the net. Butte answered with goals from Andrew James and Keegan Adams to send the game into the first intermission tied 2-2. The Wild took control in the second period with two short-handed goals. Jay Reese put Gillette ahead midway through the period before Maguire Dewees extended the lead shortly after. Gillette added two more goals in the third period. Balek completed his hat trick on the power play before Reese added his second goal of the game to make it 6-2. Andrew Knox made 18 saves to earn the win for Gillette, while Zackary David stopped 28 shots for Butte. The Wild finished with 34 shots on goal, while the Irish recorded 20.

Great Falls 7 @ Helena 5 - The Great Falls Americans held off the Helena Bighorns, 7-5, Saturday at Steed Arena. Great Falls built a 3-1 lead in the first period, with goals from Keifer Lundmark, Jacob Weber and another from Weber. Helena’s Lincoln Kearney scored late in the opening period to get the Bighorns on the board. The Americans added two more goals in the second period to take a 5-2 lead into the final frame. Jase Troyer and Reid Lezubksi found the net for Great Falls, while Cameron Kimmerly scored for Helena. The Bighorns responded with three goals early in the third period to pull within one. Austin Uecker and Kimmerly scored on the power play, with Kimmerly completing his hat trick to make it 5-4. Great Falls answered with a short-handed goal from Xander Troyer midway through the period to restore a two-goal lead. Gordon Jennings added another goal on the power play later in the period to give the Americans a 7-5 advantage. JD Stephens made 58 saves to earn the win for Great Falls, while Helena finished with 63 shots on goal. The Americans finished with 28 shots. 

Oklahoma City 0 @ Phoenix 6 - The Phoenix Inferno showcased a shutout in 6-0 fashion over the Warriors. The opening frame was scoreless as both teams traded chances. Phoenix controlled the period, outshooting the Warriors 10-3. Moving into the second frame, the Inferno tallied five goals to take the lead. James Greenwood got the scoring started with his first tally of the season. Followed behind him was Otaro Inoue, scoring twice in the span of six minutes. A few moments later, Cash Johnson lit the lamp with a little over 90 seconds left in the period. Finally, Stas Ershov tallied his first of the season off a feed from Brayden MacMillan. In the final period of regulation, Cash Johnson scored his second of the night midway through the frame. The Inferno skate to a 6-0 victory. In net for Phoenix, Logan Gibbs turned aside all 17 shots.
