Former Bobcat garners top honors

Former Bismarck Bobcats forward Jacques Lamoureux, a sophomore at the Air Force Academy, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Player of the Year and also one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given each year to college hockey's top player.

Lamoureux, who won the league’s regular-season scoring trophy with 38 points on 23 goals, was also named to Atlantic Hockey’s All-Conference First Team, along with Army junior forward Owen Meyer, a former Mahoning Valley Phantom; Black Knights senior defenseman Zach McKelvie, formerly of the Bozeman Icedogs; Air Force senior defenseman Greg Flynn, a graduate of the Billings Bulls; and Air Force junior goaltender Andrew Volkening, formerly of the Wasilla Spirit (now the Alaska Avalanche).

Lamoureux, a Grand Forks, N.D., native who played for the Bobcats from 2003-06, is the second Air Force player in school history, and the second in the last three years, to be named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. Former NAHL standout Eric Ehn (Capital Centre Pride) was a finalist - and also named to the Hobey Hat Trick as one of three finalists - in 2007.

Flynn was also tabbed Atlantic Hockey’s Best Defenseman, while Volkening copped the league’s regular-season goaltending trophy with a 2.09 goals-against average.

Other NAHL graduates honored by Atlantic Hockey include former Phantom forward Anthony Canzoneri, a Bentley College senior who was named the league’s Best Defensive Forward and took home the AHA’s Sportsmanship Award.

All-Conference Second Team selections include Bentley senior forward Dain Prewitt (Fargo-Moorhead Jets), Connecticut senior defenseman Sean Erickson (Springfield Spirit) and Mercyhurst sophomore goaltender Ryan Zapolski (Mahoning Valley).
