Saturday Scores: Lumberjacks beat division-leading Mustangs
Dallas 4 @ Topeka 5 – Topeka scored three times in the 3rd period to come from behind to beat Dallas, 5-4. Tommy Malkmus had a hat-trick for the Capitals and Hardijs Kupaks and Kole Hudson also scored for Topeka. Dallas goals came from Alex Cyrenne, Colin South, Corey Burns and Raurie Petrich. Boxscore
Pittsburgh 3 @ Michigan 1 – The Vengeance fired off 59 shots in a 3-1 win over the Mountain Cats. Tom Diffendal and Alex Berardinelli scored in the 1st period and Michael Straub added a 2nd period goal for the Vengeance. Zach Collins scored the lone goal for Michigan, who got 56 saves from Kevin O’Shea in the loss, while Chase Sanford made 30 saves in the win. Boxscore
Battle Creek 4 @ Chicago 7 – The Jr. Bulldogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back in the win. Matt Kostopoulos scored twice and Toms Taurins, Ryan Maksimovic, Vince Bartkowiak, Joey Marvin and Christopher Wachal scored for Chicago, while Austin Hill scored twice for the Revolution. Boxscore
Flint 4 @ Toledo 0 – In a potential first round playoff match-up, Flint shutout Toledo. Peoria 1 @ Granite City 5 – The Lumberjacks got three points from David Horsmann as they beat the Central Division-leading Mustangs. Goals from Aidan Verbeke, Drew Otto and Travis Kothenbeutel put Granite City ahead 3-0. After Peoria got their lone goal from Max Finley, the Lumberjacks scored twice more from Horsmann and Taylor Brown. Boxscore
North Iowa 4 @ Twin City 1 – Three 2nd period goals helped the Bulls to a 4-1 road win against Twin City. Tim Santopoalo opened the scoring in the 1st period for the Bulls, who then got three 2nd period goals from Brandon Anderson and two from Matt Kroska. The lone Steel goal came from Chase Myers-Beck. Wisconsin 2 @ St. Louis 5 - The Jr. Blues put themselves on the brink of a playoff spot with a 5-2 win over the Whalers. The Jr. Blues got three goals in the 2nd period to break the game open on markers from Alex Klaesner, Christian Argyros and Andrew Kovacich. Klaesner and Steven Farina added 3rd period goals.
