Former Flying Aces defenseman Mickelson make college commitment

June 27, 2016
Lewis University is pleased to announce the commitment of former NA3HL and Minnesota Flying Aces defenseman Lucas Mickelson to its 2016-17 recruiting class.

Mickelson, 21, commits to playing ACHA Division II hockey at Lewis University after having his best season of junior hockey with the Minnesota Flying Aces of the NA3HL.

During the 2015-16 campaign the 6'4/200 lbs. native of Barron, Wisconsin played in 40 games recording 2 goals and 7 assists. Over his three year junior career in the NA3HL with the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, Granite City Lumberjacks and Flying Aces, Mickelson appeared in 110 games scoring 2 goals and 7 assists to go along with his 228 penalty minutes.

“Defense was a major focus point in this years recruiting class. Mickelson will make our 3rd defensive commit and I couldn't be happier with the addition. He brings a lot of size and toughness to our lineup,” said Lewis University coach Tim Picco.

“Lucas is a stay at home defenseman, but can be an effective offensive threat at times. We didn't recruit him primarily for his offense, we are recruiting him for his hard-nosed playing style, his work ethic and his character. He is a perfect balance to our stay at home and jump into the play guys.”

Mickelson will attend Lewis University on academic scholarship and major in flight aviation.
