Former NA3HL, Sharks goalie Mundinger makes NCAA debut
October 26, 2016
Former NA3HL Long Beach Sharks (New York Aviators) goalie Stephen Mundinger made his NCAA Division I debut this weekend for the University of Maine.
This past season Mundinger went from a relatively unknown player to a first team all-star selection and NA3EHL Goaltender of the Year. He also played on the NA3EHL West Division Prospects team that competed at the NA3HL Showcase. Along the way, Mundinger also earned his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Maine.
That NCAA dream came true this past weekend as Mundinger made an appearance in Maine’s 5-0 loss to Miami (OH) University on Saturday night. Mundiger came in relief of starting goalie Rob McGovern in the 3rd period.
The RedHawks scored on a delayed penalty as Karch Bachman was able to slide the puck passed a sliding Dane Gibson on the rush, to Kiefer Sherwood who did the rest, sending the goal passed Mundinger's blocker and giving the RedHawks a 5-0 lead. As a bright spot, this was the only goal Mundinger surrendered and was able to turn away multiple chances including a 2 on 0 from inside the top of the circles. Mundinger made 7 saves on 8 attempts.
