The Breezy Point North Stars of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward/defenseman Nick Blanchette has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Becker College.
Blanchette, 20, just completed his third and final season playing for the North Stars in the NA3HL. He had a career-best season in 2016-17 with 33 points in 42 games played.
Overall in his NA3HL career, Blanchette (6’4/195) played in 129 career regular season games and recorded 71 points.
“This season Nick has served as a great captain and leader for our program. Becker is getting a great all around 200-foot player and a team guy. Nick helped raise the bar for our program in Breezy Point. Along with Nick’s commitment this season he also earned the “North Star Award” this season, which starting next season will be named “The Nick Blanchette Award”. This award is for players that demonstrate everything it takes to be a North Star from leadership, commitment, dedication and community involvement. We could not be prouder of Nick and his accomplishments and can’t wait to see him carry that over to the college level,” said North Stars head coach Jon Jonasson.
“Nick has been a pleasure to watch grow as a player and person over the last four years. Having had coached him in high school and knowing his work ethic, I knew this was the right hockey path for him to develop and succeed in Breezy Point. He’s such a great local story and one our entire hockey community is very proud of! We wish him the best and know he will do very well at the college level,” stated Craig Larson, North Stars General Manager.
“I want to thank my coaching staff especially Jon Jonasson and Craig Larson for developing me the right way and giving me the opportunity to succeed and set me up with an amazing college. I am very excited for the next four years in a Becker Eagle sweater. I am looking forward to college hockey and becoming a student athlete while earning a great education which will lead to future success in my life,” said Blanchette.
Nick will be looking to major in Nursing at Becker.
