New Ulm forward Smith makes NCAA commitment
August 1, 2018
The New Ulm Steel of the NA3HL is proud to announce that forward Ryan Smith has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the WIAC.
“I chose UWRF because I would get an opportunity to get a great education and be a part of a team with unbelievable tradition. I’m excited to start this next chapter of my life,” Smith said.
Smith, a 6’1/180 lbs. native of St. Paul, Minnesota, played for the Steel during the 2017-18 season where he tallied 19 goals and 22 assists for a total of 41 points in 47 games played.
“I want to thank the New Ulm organization for all that they’ve done for me including my teammates, the coaches, Carol Brennan, and my family. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such an amazing community and organization. I wish nothing but the best for their future,” Smith said.
Before his time with the Steel, Smith played for the Granite City Lumberjacks for one season and was a member of the team that won the, formerly known, Silver Cup in 2017.
Smith was selected for and participated in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament. Prior to his two years in junior hockey, Smith spent three seasons playing Minnesota high school hockey for Cretin-Derham Hall.
