Rhinos, Cobras finish off weeks with wins on Monday

El Paso 4 vs. TX RoadRunners 1 – The Rhinos got four-point games from John Mulvihill and Cole Schneider to finish off a sweep of the RoadRunners thanks to a 4-1 win on Monday. Schneider started the Rhinos’ scoring at the 9:40 mark of the first period. Trisitin Maestas, with the help of Cole Schneider and Cole Ingram, gave the Rhinos a two goal lead before the end of the first frame. Rhino forward John Mulvihill’s shorthanded goal increased the RoadRunners’ deficit to three just 31 seconds into the second period. Then, with just 36 seconds remaining until the second intermission, Easton Easterson extended the Rhinos’ lead to four. The RoadRunners cracked the goose egg when Derek Boutin slipped one past Rhino netminder Jordan Belley at the 5:16 mark of the period. The Rhinos, however, hung on to the lead and took the game 4-1, earning their first sweep of the season. Belley made 36 saves in the win, while Jaxon Taylor made 48 saves in the loss.

Missoula 1 @ Butte 4 – Kyler Garsjo had a hat-trick and goalie Nikolai Wallery made 33 saves as the Cobras picked up their second win over the Jr. Bruins this weekend with a 4-1 win on Monday afternoon. Butte came out flying in the first outshooting the visitors 17-6 in the opening period. Garsjo scored the lone goal with assists from Hunter Howe and Nikita Pinimyasov. After a scoreless second period Garsjo made it 2-0 at 3:06 of the third on a tally assisted by Robin Bagley and Nick Bradshaw. Less than a minute later Randy Yeakley scored his third of the season to give the Cobras a 3-0 advantage. Near the midway point of the final frame Garsjo completed his hat trick scoring shorthanded. Yeakley assisted on the goal, the 11th of the season for Garsjo. Gabe Gifford would snap Wallery’s shutout bid with just :20 seconds remaining in regulation to score the lone goal for Missoula. Jr. Bruins goalie Maxim Currie made 52 saves in the loss.
