Saturday Scores: Cyclones keep pace in Central with sweep
The Minnesota Loons picked up a weekend sweep of the New Ulm Steel.
St. Louis 3 @ Wausau 9: Gabe Vierzba and Zac Maupin each tallied four points as the Wausau Cyclones defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues by a score of 9-3. Ricky Nelson also potted a pair of goals and added an assist. Hayden Shoemake registered a goal and an assist while Micalister Markiewicz, Kalob Paquin and Adam Wiggins all lit the lamp for the Wausau. Ryan Burke finished the game with 23 saves to grab the win in goal. Connor McCaffrey, Carson Pishkur and Matthew Mahoney scored for St. Louis in the loss. Mason Brooks ended the night with 23 stops.
New Ulm 1 @ Minnesota 7: The Minnesota Loons finished off a weekend sweep against the New Ulm Steel in a 7-1 final score. Garrett Burroughs (9:24) opened up the scoring in the first period netting his third goal of the season. Soon after, Josh Gulden (10:22) evened the game 1-1. Minnesota went back on the attack to take back the lead with back-to-back goals with HOlden Pratt (11:25) and Cooper Brackett (12:05) for a 3-1 to end the period. In the second period the Loons went on the attack adding four goals with Josiah Lambers (2:12), Jamison St. Clair (4:53), Evan Fritze (13:35) and Cooper Brackett (13:56) for a 7-1 final score. Keaton French stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
Austin 2 @ Louisiana 6: Louisiana Drillers forward Jack Lambert found the back of the net three times and added an assist in his squad’s 6-2 victory over the Ice Bats. Ayden Attungana contributed a Drillers goal just 43 seconds into the 1st period to leave a 1-0 score after 20 minutes. Lambert caught fire in the middle period, scoring three goals with one coming on the powerplay. Jack Hanson scored Austin’s first goal of the net midway through the period to give them life heading into the 3rd. Jack Hanson lit the lamp early in the 3rd to cut the deficit down but Micah Maldonado and Rory Neish sealed off the comeback try with more goals for the drillers. John Moriarty grabbed the win in the crease, making 29 saves on 31 shots. Bryson Frazee kept out 40 shots in the loss for Austin.
New Jersey 5 @ Bay State 6 (OT): Landon Schoonover scored his second goal of the game 2:21 into the extra period to lift his Bobcats past New Jersey in their first of two matchups this weekend. Schoonover, William Jasmin, and Leonard Litwin all buried goals in the opening period for Bay State. A pair of goals from New Jersey’s Kurt Johnson brought the score to 3-2 through the first 20 minutes. Nate Mastrony and Johnson traded goals to keep Bay State’s lead at one through two periods of play. In the 3rd, Jasmin buried his second to extend the lead early but Dante DeBlueris and George Hinds each lit the lamp to bring the game to overtime. AJ Cooper made 37 saves in the overtime victory while Jake Agoglia and William Kelly split time in net for New Jersey to combine for 29 saves.
Willmar 1 @ Alexandria 10: The Alexandria Blizzard dominated from start to finish, finishing off the WarHawks by a final score of 10-1. Ten different Blizzard skaters had multiple points in the victory, highlighted by Cole Klingbeil who had a hat trick and added an assist. Gavin Carlson had a goal and three assists, Ashton Collings buried a goal and dished two assists, and Gavin Carlson potted a pair of goals. Willmar’s lone goal came seven minutes into the middle period from Michael Sweetland. Kyle Abrahamson was nearly perfect in net for Alexandria, stopping 26 of 27 shots faced. Wyatt Olsonawski and Payton Mancuso shared the net for Willmar, combining for 31.
Mason City 1 @ Granite City 6: The Granite City Lumberjacks bounced back after suffering their first loss as they beat the Mason City Toros 6-1. Luke Delzer had two goals on the evening while Tucker Skime and Dakota Lenz each had a goal and an assist.Coby Weber and Jack Louko also got on the scoresheet for Granite City. Ryan Lehet got the win in goal as he madee 21 saves. Hayden Siegel had the lone goal for Mason City while Connor Graham made 40 stops in the loss.
Oregon 5 @ Milwaukee 4 (SO): Nathan Walker had the only goal in the shootout and that lifted the Oregon Tradesmen to a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Power. Max Rotsaert led Oregon with a goal and an assist. Dillon Schmidt, Carters Watters and Bryce Stensrud all scored for the Tradesmen. Tyler Kreft made 24 saves in 65 minutes of action and stopped all three shooters in the shootout. The Power got goals from Bryce Garbeere, Tommy Kundinger, Patrick Toomey and Justin Lagrow. Adam Prokop was dealt the loss despite making 35 saves.
TX RoadRunners 4 @ El Paso 1: The Texas RoadRunners picked up their second win of the weekend over the El Paso Rhinos in a 4-1 final. The Rhinos took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Miles Berg (12:12) scored. Texas answered back in the second with back-to-back goals as Tyler Love (11:38) and Jack Herron (14:35) scored to get a 2-1 lead. In the third the RoadRunners kept on the offensive side of the puck adding a goal from Derek Boutin (3:34) and Tyler Love (18:37) netting his second of the game. Hunter Hein stopped 32 of the 33 shots in the game.
Sheridan 3 @ Gillette 5: The Gillette Wild completed a weekend series over the Sheridan Hawks in a 5-3 game. The Wild took a 2-0 lead in the first period when Adam Severson (3:42) and Anthony Foster (4:13) scored. In the second period, Danny Shelden (14:27) got the Hawks on the board for a 2-1 score. In the third period Sheridan took their first lead of the night when Teejay Torgimson scored twice for a 3-2 game. The Wild battled back scoring three unanswered goals with Sky Solig (13:59), Adam Severson (18:05) and Alec Waller (19:47) for a 5-3 win. Wild netminder Cole Wheaton turned away 24 of the 27 shots he saw.
Badlands 2 @ Helena 3 (OT): The Helena Bighorns defeated the Badlands Sabres by a score of 3-2. Badlands took the early lead in the 1st period at 15:17 as Zack Vockler tallied his 5th goal of the season. Then Helena tied the game up at one a piece when Tyler Bloom scored at 9:16 of the 2nd period. In the 3rd period Helena took the lead at 8:37 of the 3rd period with Tyler Alldredge scoring the goal. That lead did not last long as Badlands tied the game up at 9:41 of the 3rd period as Carter Johnson got the goal. The game needed extra time to decide this matchup as Helena ended up picking up the win with Joe Feamster being the overtime hero. Jesse Schindel picked up the win for Helena, and Zach Broxterman got the loss for Badlands.
Yellowstone 1 @ Great Falls 3: The Yellowstone Quake defeated the Great Falls Americans by a score of 3-1. After the first period the game was tied at one a piece. Great Falls got the game started with Christian Crutcher scoring 56 seconds into the game. Then Brayson Bennett tied the game up at 13:37 of the 1st period. The game stayed tied after 40 minutes of play until Great Falls broke the tie with William Fallman scoring at 14:07 of the 3rd period. Great Falls was then able to get an empty net goal at 19:34 of the 3rd period with that goal coming from Alex Leaf. Nik Romahs got the win for Great Falls stopping 46 of 47 shots, and Edvin Falkenstrom got the loss for Yellowstone where he turned away 43 of 45 shots.
Bozeman 2 @ Butte 4: The Butte Cobras defeated the Bozeman Icedogs by a score of 4-2. After the 1st period Butte led by a score of 2-1 with goals coming from Carter Large at 7:02 and Quinn Nichols at 18:15, while Chris Porciuncula got the lone goal for Bozeman at 18:15. The score stayed the same until Butte extended their lead at 2:16 of the 3rd period with the goal coming from Micah Williamson. Then Bozeman would soon get one back as Braden Koliha made it a one goal game at 11:12 of the 3rd period. In the final seconds Butte would finish the game off with another goal sealing the victory with that goal coming from Patrick Crooks. Caleb Cross was the winner between the pipes for the Cobras stopping 39 of 41 shots, and Cam Milewski stopped 47 of 51 shots in the loss for Bozeman.
