Friday Finals: Drillers open season with convincing win

Matt McIntyre helped the Alexandria Blizzard open their 2023-24 season with a win in Mason City on Friday.

Louisiana Drillers 8 @ Mid Cities Jr. Stars 2: The Louisiana Drillers came out swinging with two goals in the first scored by Jackson Lord, and Johnathon Berndt, and Mid Cities Jr. Stars had one goal in the first as well making it 2-1. Going into the second Louisiana Drillers had four consecutive goals scored by Roman Vitolo, two from Ayden Attungana, and Casper Rys Sakrisvold making it a 6-1. Heading into the third Louisiana Drillers had two goals scored by Jake Bergstrom, and Kody Genz, and Mid Cities Jr. Stars had a goal by William Heskett making the score 8-2. William Carney saved 19 shots for the win, while Cole Eckert saved 28 shots and Kameron Ragon saved 10 shots in the loss.

Alexandria Blizzard 6 @ Mason City Toros 2: Alexandria Blizzard had two goals in the first scored by Eli Fletcher, and Reece Hubmer. Mason City Toros also had a goal of their own scored by Dominic Thomas making it 2-1. Going into the second Alexandria Blizzard had two more goals scored by Matt Mclntyre, and Caleb Waller making the score 4-1. For the third period Alexandria Blizzard had two more goals scored by Eli Fletcher, and Karsten Senden, and for Mason City Toros Dominic Thomas scored making it 6-2. Nolan LaCosse saved 29 shots for the win, while Devin Peck saved 23 shots in the loss.

Long Beach Sharks 1 @ Norwich Sea Captains 5: Starting off the night with a slow first heading into the second the Norwich Sea Captains scored four consecutive shots two by Glen Farmer, then Aidan Raedy, and Carson Dutcher. But the Long Beach Sharks had a goal of their own by James Tringale making the score 4-1 at the end of the second. Halfway through the third Tyler Herrick scored for the Norwich Sea Captains making the final score 5-1. Presley Patrin made 16 saves for the win, while Joey Christophel made 38 saves in the loss.

New Jersey Titans 5 @ New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings 4: New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings scored two goals in the first by Leonardo Kahlhammer, and Jory Veenstra making the score 2-0. Going into the second the New Jersey Titans came back swinging with five consecutive shots by Zach Gershner, George Hinds, Zach O’Neal, Nick Lamprecht, and William Fliss. Right behind them Riley Klas scored for New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings making the score 5-3. Halfway through the third Leonardo Kahlhammer scored again for New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings making the final score 5-4. Sebastian Thome saved 27 shots for the win, while Jake Agoglia saved 36 shots in the loss.

Gillette Wild 7 @ Great Falls Americans 0: Gillette Wild came out swinging in all three periods for a 7-0 win. In the first period they made two goals by Isaac Young, and Ryan Hipsag making it 2-0. Following up into the second with three more goals scored by Todd Powassin, Tay Kurpius, and Will Sexton making it 5-0. And once more into the third with two more goals by Jace Johnson, and Ryan Hipsag making the final score 7-0. Dominic Hite with a shut out of all 21 shots on goal for the win, while Kaden Ryhder made 29 saves and Ryan Stowe made 24 saves in the loss.

New Mexico Ice Wolves 2 @ Texas Brahmas 3 (OT): Chase Becnel scored the final two goals of the game, including the overtime winner with under a minute remaining in the extra period as the Brahmas edged the Ice Wolves, 3-2. Luke Moisan had the other goal in the Brahmas win, while Ian Mohr and Kennan Reyelts scored in the loss for New Mexico. Brendan Forden made 27 saves in the win, while Pierson Haislet made 19 saves in the loss.

Bozeman Ice Dogs 4 @ Badlands Sabres 3: Bozeman Ice Dogs had the first goal of the night scored by Kody Wallenberg, yet right behind him where tow goal for Badlands Sabres scored by Brooks Roaldson, and Peyton Wilson making it 2-1. Going into the second both teams only had one goal for Bozeman Ice Dogs it was Bodie Shepardson, and for Badlands Sabres Brooks Roaldson making it 3-2. Bozeman Ice Dogs came back fighting with two more goals scored by Kody Wallenberg, and Mason Czarnecki making the final score 4-3. Sean Smer saved 7 shots and Matthew Ryynanen saved 13 shots for the win, while Hunter Oger saved 38 shots in the loss.

Peoria Mustangs 2 @ West Bend Power 4: Starting off the night with a slow first period heading into the second West Bend Power scored two goals, both from Odin Klebba making the score 2-0. Heading into the third West Bend Power had two more goals scored by Connor O’Neal, and Andrew, Butler, while Peoria Mustangs also had two goals in the third scored by Henry Griffin, and Robin Kuusik making the final score 4-2. Gavin Wohlmacher saved 24 shots for the win, while Mason West saved 24 shots in the loss.

Wisconsin Woodsmen 5 @ Minnesota Loons 2: Wisconsin Woodsmen had the only goal in the first scored by Nolan-James Mix making the score 1-0. Wisconsin Woodsmen came back at it again with three consecutive goals scored by Hunter Nelson, Hugh Deninema, and Brayden Warchol making it 4-0. Heading into the third the Minnesota Loons had two goals scored by Broden Fawcett, and Josh Serino, while Wisconsin Woodsmen had one goal scored by Hayden Kolczynski making it a 5-2 final. Ryan Hacker saved 23 shots for the win, while Steven Kelley saved 23 shots in the loss.

Helena Bighorns 4 @ Sheridan Hawks 2:  Sheridan Hawks had one goal in the first scored by Daniil Viscu making it 1-0. Starting the second Helena Bighorns had two goals scored by Camden Cunningham, and Gavin Barr, while Tanner freed scored for Sheridan Hawks making it 2-2. Going into the third Helena Bighorns had two goals scored by Finn Theriault , and Trey Pareja making it 4-2 final. Malik Johnson saved 14 shots for the win, while Zach Broxterman saved a whopping 60 shots in the loss.

Willmar WarHawks 1 @ Granite City Lumberjacks 3: Granite City Lumberjacks had one goal in the first scored by Jack Marske making it 1-0. In the second Granite City Lumberjacks scored one goal by Edan Cho, while Willmar War Hawks scored one goal by Tyler Misialek making the score 2-1. And in the third the Granite City Lumberjacks scored another goal by Easton Portner making the final score 3-1. Sam Schowalter had 32 saves for the win, while Kamdon Carlson saved all 10 shots and Jesse Easterwood saved 25 shots in the loss.

Wausau Cyclones 8 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 2: Wausau Cyclones scored one goal in the first by  unknown player making the score 1-0. In the second both teams scored for Wausau Cyclones it was Gabe Randel, and for St. Louis Jr. Blues it was Connor Westbrock making the score 2-1.Going into the third Wausau Cyclones had six consecutive goals scored by Connor Dvorak, Matthew Witt, Antonio Gomez, Chase Chapman, Ricky Nelson, and Antonio Gomez, while St. Louis Jr. Blues had one goal scored by Ryan Callahan making the final score 8-2.

Texas RoadRunners 3 @ Austin Ice Bats 1 – The RoadRunners outshot the Ice Bats 49-21 in a 3-1 win. Goals for Texas came from Noah Easterson, Kristoffer Svensson, and Porter Wolk in the win. Hunter Houle made 20 saves in the win.
