Willmar Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With Wednesday Win

Nick Jones racked up five points in the Rhinos win

Norwich 0 @ New Hampshire 2: Manny Pantow was perfect, stopping all 29 shots he faced as the New Hampshire Jr. Mountain Kings blanked the Norwich Sea Captains 2-0. Alex Holmgren scored in the opening minutes to put New Hampshire out in front. Joey Veenstra picked up the insurance goal in the closing minutes of the period and that would be all the scoring that was needed thanks to Pantow’s shutout. Noah Behrens played well in the loss for Norwich, he made 28 saves.

Willmar 4 @ Alexandria 3: Gus Cantwell’s goal in the third period was the difference as the Willmar WarHawks edged the Alexandria Blizzard 4-3. Luke McCarthy got Willmar on the board first in the opening period but the lead was short lived as Ashton Collings evened the game just three minutes later. Shane Dean would put Willmar back in front before the end of the period with his eighth of the year. Dome Szabo and Chris Fotopoulos traded goals for the teams before Matt Scribner tied the game at three heading into the final frame. Then with just under seven minutes left in regulation, Cantwell scored his 11th goal of the year to give the WarHawks the lead for good. Kai Girard made 34 saves to earn the win in goal for Willmar while Jozef Zilinec stopped 31 shots for the Blizzard in the loss.

Mid Cities 0 @ El Paso 14: Nick Jones led the way with five points as the El Paso Rhinos defeated he Mid Cities Jr. Stars 14-0. Joseph Gutierrez had a hat trick and added an assist. Kyle Arias notched two goals and two assists while Mackenzie Bolger and Zach Ware also scored twice in the victory. Rocco Romita and Joseph May tallied a goal and two helpers while Donovan Bradford and Jake Sherry also lit the lamp as well. Matt Loney made five stops for the Rhinos. Jack Elliot and Maverick Sweeney combined to make 34 saves.
