Gillette and Northeast Win to move on to Fraser Cup semifinal round

The 2024 NA3HL Fraser Cup Championship continued on Friday, March 22nd with two games that had the Gillette Wild and Northeast Generals winning to advance to the semifinal round.  

The 2024 NA3HL Fraser Cup Championship, which takes place from March 20-24 at the St. Peters Rec Plex in St. Peters, Missouri. Six teams have advanced to the season-ending event, which annually crowns the NA3HL National Playoff Champion.

The seeding for the event will be as follows:

Pool A: #1 Granite City Lumberjacks (West), #4 West Bend Power (Central), #6 Gillette Wild (Wild Card)

Pool B: #2 Helena Bighorns (Frontier), #3 Louisiana Drillers (South), #5 Northeast Generals (East)

 

Day 3 Recaps:

Fraser Cup Round-Robin, Pool A: Gillette Wild 5 vs. West Bend Power 1: The Gillette Wild dominated the West Bend Power on their way to clinch a spot in the 2024 Fraser Cup semifinal round by a score of 5-1. In the first period, Gillette got ahead with a goal from Will Sexton (1:52), 1-0. In the second period, Isaac Young (6:10) added to the Wild lead, 2-0. In the third, Young (13:32) added his second of the night to make the score 3-0 for the Wild. Later in the period, the Power got on the scoresheet with Cole Fenske (17:02), 3-1. Gillette answered with back-to-back empty net goals from Matt Siems (17:54) and Wylee Gladen (18:09) to seal the win, 5-1. Gillette netminder Weston Gerke turned away 27 shots in the win. The Wild will now head to the Fraser Cup semifinal round to face-off against the Helena Bighorns.  

Fraser Cup Round-Robin, Pool B: Northeast Generals 3 vs Louisiana Drillers 0: The Northeast Generals shutout the Louisiana Drillers in a 3-0 contest. After a scoreless first period, Anthony Nuzzolilo (14:26) got the Generals on the board for a 1-0 score. Soon after, Sean Gorman (16:27) found the back of the net to get Northeast ahead 2-0 going into the second intermission. Late in the third period, and with an empty Drillers net, Matthew Nuzzolilo (18:57) scored to take the win for Northeast, 3-0. Generals goalie Daniel Antal was perfect in between the pipes stopping 15 shots. The Generals will face-off against the Granite City Lumberjacks in the Fraser Cup semifinals.

Saturday, March 23 - Semifinal Round: Pool A 1st place: Granite City Lumberjacks  vs. Pool B 2nd place, 4pm | Pool B 1st place: Helena Bighorns vs. Pool A 2nd place: Gillette Wild, 7pm

Sunday, March 26: Fraser Cup Final, 4pm
